Reflection

After dinner, Simon and I were playing on the living room floor for a while. Since he was in a good mood, I left some toys around him and went to wash his bottles. I returned to see his back facing me; he was sitting but leaning all the way forward with his face almost touching the floor. I got down on the floor next to him to see what he was doing.

Simon was leaning forward looking at his reflection in a small unbreakable mirror. No, scratch that, he was kissing his reflection in that mirror! That boy loves his reflection (although at this point he doesn't realize that it's himself that he's seeing).

As I was laughing and saying, "Awww," Si promptly spit up on the mirror.

Too bad I didn't have a video camera ready...

Si Sorta Crawls

We've tried and tried to get Simon to crawl. We've sat out of his reach and tried to get him to come to us, but he just sits there and cries. We've tried putting cheerios on a napkin on the floor out of his reach, but he just doesn't care. But we finally found something that works...

He has these blocks that are different shapes and colors, and if we stack them up, he must knock them down. He doesn't laugh or smile when he does it either, it's just like a compulsion or something. So we started stacking them up out of his reach and he started crawling over to knock them down. Well, I use the term "crawl" loosely. See for yourself!

Abe Lincoln's 200th Birthday Party

The Abe Lincoln Birthday Party is back! Well, it was back... today, in fact. Yes, his birthday was Thursday, but with it being Valentine's weekend and all, today seemed to be the best day to celebrate. There was mingling, trivia, food and pin-the-beard-on-Abe!

Some ladies (and Simon) mingling

Some dudes mingling

Kids, food and more mingling

The award-winning chocolate & pretzel log cabin made by newly wed John & Emily

The award-winning stovepipe hat cake pops my friend Bonnie and I made

Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of pin-the-beard-on-Abe, but I will say that one beard ended up in Simon's room.

Those stovepipe hat cake pops really were quite the hit being both delicious and Lincoln-themed! Basically, they're crumbled up devil's food cake mixed with cream cheese icing, balled, chilled, molded, chilled again and dipped in chocolate bark. I was inspired by the blog Bakerella. You can find the recipe here. Her stuff is much prettier than mine. Check out her other cake pops. They're incredible, especially her Halloween pops!

Simon was definiely not a fan of having that many people at our house, but it was a good time.

Tooth Two

Simon is getting tooth #2! His other bottom front tooth poked through today! (He grabbed my finger, stuck it in his mouth and gently bit down; I guess he was trying to tell me!) Now that he has a couple teeth, he likes to put things in his mouth (his socks, for example) and pull on them... kind of like a puppy.

Photo Shoot

It's about 2:30 and Simon is napping, so what am I doing? Brushing my teeth? Nope, haven't done that yet. Folding laundry? Nope, not that either, although I did actually put some in the wash. Straightening up? Nope. I'll tell you what I'm doing- I'm sharing more cute baby pictures with you! These are from Simon's 9 month photo shoot last week:

Such a sweet boy!

Huh?

So serious; so cute

Feet, feet, feet! Si loves playing with his feet!

Simon's First Snow Experience

Yesterday it got warmer, so we took Simon out for his first snow experience. He didn't like it. He didn't want to be put down in it and he didn't like the taste (though he did taste it several times after he decided he didn't like it). Here are the pictures:

Simon did not want to be put down on the snow, so he threw a fit.

Daddy stood him up; all better!

Checking out this snow stuff

Going for a taste... Gah! That darn coat is in the way!

Mommy will help!

There ya have it, Simon's first snow experience.

A Very Simon Christmas (Part 4)... FINALLY

OK, so I finally got around to putting the last of the Christmas pictures on our computer! So now you can see the rest of Simon's first Christmas... with Nella!

Just hanging out on the floor

Gazing into each other's eyes...

I think they like each other.
