6 Months

Our baby is a half year old!  Craziness!  So to celebrate, I thought we could compare Chase's, my and Simon's 6 month baby pictures:

As you can see, Chase was a fat baby.  Unlike Simon, it seems that Chase enjoyed being on his tummy.  Like Simon, it looks like he enjoyed wearing overalls and had multiple chins.  Si obviously got his blue eyes from Chase, too.

This is me!  Unlike Simon, I had virtually no fat rolls.  My mom has said to me more than once that Si didn't get his chunk from me.  I think he got my nose, though.

And here's Simon from our walk today!  He still loves being outside, enjoys grabbing things, taking naps on our bed and really likes being naked.  He doesn't like sweet peas (and will turn his head from side to side while smiling so that I can't get the spoon in his mouth- the pea dance), still doesn't like being on his tummy very much, and dislikes putting clothes on after a bath (usually cries when I put his arms in his sleeves).  Si has started playing Peek-a-Boo, makes awesome sounds when he's sleepy, and he thinks it's hilarious when Chase & I chew our food.

So who do you think he looks like?

Tucson Pictures

We're still recovering from our trip to Tucson, but Simon has adjusted quite well. He was soooo happy to be home. As soon as he realized where he was when we came in the door on Sunday night, he started smiling and kicking like crazy.

Here are some pictures from our trip:

Si hanging out by the pool during the wedding rehearsal with his 2nd cousin Karen Jo and his aunt Paige

Hugging Aunt Paige

Pre-fussfest at the wedding with Great Aunt Juan

Mariachi band!

Alex being walked down the aisle by her dad

Joel kissing his bride

Chase and his sister Laura Beth coming back down the aisle

Chase was trying to be stealthy with the camera, but Jon Darron was on to him!

And there you have it. Our trip to Arizona. Chase often comments that Simon has seen more of our country the first 5 months of his live than he did the first 20 of his!

Hooray for Free WiFi at the Tucson Airport!

The Tucson, AZ airport has free WiFi. So here is Simon being all cute and happy:

But as I type, he's fussing. He was the champion of flying on the way out. Let's all hope he does well on the way back.

This weekend he started saying "mum mum mum mum mum." It's pretty awesome. And he makes chewing motions.

Oh, and in case you're wondering why we are in Tucson, it was for a wedding. More pictures to come!

***UPDATE***

The Denver airport also has free WiFi! Hooray!

So, Simon was fussy for half of the last flight and cried hard for the last 15 minutes or so. Let's all hope this flight goes better.

***UPDATE***

We made it home last night (with some Krispy Kremes) around 9:30. And as a special gift, Simon gave me a little over 8 hours of sleep!

Solids

So far Simon has eaten:
-rice cereal
-oatmeal
-green beans
-sweet potatoes
-his own feet (okay, not really, but he does stick them in his mouth)

Simon doesn't care much for rice cereal, and I think it's because the rice dissolves too much making it too liquidy. But he loves lumpy oatmeal. Si doesn't mind green beans and seems to really like sweet potatoes.

Waiting in the wings:
-sweet peas
-squash

Here is what he looked like after some green beans recently:

And let me tell you, it pretty much looked the same coming out as it did going in, if you know what I mean. But it smelled much, much worse.

Here is what he looked like after a bath after eating green beans:

And here he is looking super cute in his Galloping Fun Jumparoo!

Yeah, this last one has nothing to do with solids, but he sure does look cute!

Traveling to The Big Easy Can Be Difficult with an Infant

Chase, Simon & I were in New Orleans this past weekend for our commissioning as missionaries with the North American Mission Board. Normally, one would be commissioned at the beginning of an appointment, but it happened a little more than halfway through our two-year appointment because the first two commissionings were full and the third was right after Simon's due date. But New Orleans is Chase's favorite city, so this free trip worked out quite well.

The plane ride down was no fun for any of us. Of the hour and a half flight down, Simon cried pretty hard for an hour. People kept saying it was probably the pressure on his ears, and they were likely right, but he won't take a pacifier and is very persnickety about nursing (he likes it to be quiet and he hates being covered up, which makes it difficult to do in public). The sucking would have helped, but if he wouldn't nurse, there wasn't anything we could do for him. But thankfully, quite a few people on our flight were also missionaries and were very understanding and gracious.

Most of our time was spent at the hotel doing meetings and such... well, Si and I often went back to the room so we, er, he could nap and not be a general distraction. We did get to go to a few restaurants, got to meet up with some friends a few times and had a half day in the French Quarter where the famed street performer Grandpa Elliot sang to Simon (Chase took some video, but I'll let him post that).

I was really looking forward to having some delicious crab cakes while we were there, but with all the places we ate that served seafood, not one of them served crab cakes! New Orleans, I am very disappointed in you! That's the only seafood I like.

Now for some more negativity: Si has become the bedtime champ, falling asleep pretty easily, but our last night at the hotel was rough. So rough, in fact, that someone had called in a noise complaint about us. Si had been screaming and we finally just laid him down on our bed between us and we all fell asleep. Shortly after that, a security guard knocked on our door which startled Chase and woke up Simon who then started crying again. We got him back to sleep and made several futile attempts to move him to the crib. He ended up just sleeping in our bed.

So the next time you're staying at a hotel and your neighbor has a crying baby, it's in everybody's best interest not to call in a complaint because chances are as soon as the parents get that baby to stop crying and to go to bed, the security guard following up on the complaint will knock on the door and wake the baby causing him to cry even louder, and that will keep you and his parents up until they can get him back to sleep.

On a positive note, Simon was the champion of flying on our way back. He just fussed a little twice right before eating and slept almost the entire flight. Hooray! Hopefully he'll be that good when we fly to Arizona next week for Joel & Alex's wedding.

Now here's what you're really interested in, pictures:
