Baby Si is Growing

Simon had his 4 month doc appointment on Monday. He is now 26.5 inches tall (in the 90th percentile for height) and weighs 15 pounds 14.5 ounces (in the 75th percentile for weight). He was given the OK to start eating solid food...

So tonight we gave him his first taste of rice cereal. Since Si loves being at the table so much with us at dinner time, that's the time we chose to start and he absolutely loved it! He kept grabbing my hand and pulling it towards his mouth to get me to go faster.

Tons of Pictures!

I started this blog post a few days ago and put it on hold when Si got sick. He's much better now and has just a bit of congestion and a cough left. But now I believe he's starting the teething process...

Anyway, here are tons of new pictures of our awesome baby...

Si with his first toy, a giraffe we call Hibbleton. They have a love-hate relationship. One minute Si is cuddling Hibbleton and the next he's yelling at and/or biting his friend. Thanks Aunt Manders.

This is Si's latest gift, a hat from the Cincinnati Zoo that my mom got for him. I've seen all kinds of little hats for baby girls but haven't seen any for boys. Now the sun will stay off his head when we go outside!

Here's an outfit one of Chase's (southern) aunts got for him...

...and Simon's reaction to me taking his picture in it. His thighs are a little too beefy for it.

Speaking of meat, here are some meaty feeties!

Chase likes him in overalls

No longer screaming during "tummy time," hooray! (The Boppy helps.)

Now here are Si's 3 month old pictures from JC Penny's... My mom took us while we were in town a few weeks ago. (We had a bad experience there with them being an hour late at which point our baby became fussy and then a couple of pictures where he was smiling turned out to be blurry... And I don't think the lighting was that great, either... And we can take better pictures at home... Needless to say, we don't recommend JC Penny's portrait studio, but Si still looked cute.)

Holding his head up and sticking his tongue out like his daddy does while concentrating.

Nakey baby! Si loves being naked...

Reading his favorite book

This one is my favorite: Sweet Si

Sick Baby

Simon has had his first experience in being sick.

Doesn't he look super cute in his robot jammies?! (Thanks Billingsleys!) It's just a cold, and he's getting better now, but here's how it went down...

Monday
Si had a pretty fussy day and was just acting weird. He wouldn't go down for nap #2 until just before 7:00 pm. His bedtime is 9:00, so I woke him up at 8:00 to make sure he didn't sleep too long and stay up too late. When I woke him up, he was super congested and very upset. I put his jammies on and let him just go back to bed. Si woke up at midnight and was up til about 3:30 am. He kept coughing and sneezing and sounded bad, but he was pretty happy.

Tuesday
Si was up again just before 7:00 am giving me just under 3 1/2 hours of sleep. I was pretty sure it was just the sniffles and that there wouldn't be too much we could do about it, but it being the first time he's ever been sick, I wanted to take him to the doctor just to be sure it wasn't anything more. We got in at 9:15 am and the doc said his lungs and ears were fine. He suggested getting some baby saline drops for his nose and to invest in a cool mist humidifier. We came home, took a nap, then went out and got his nose drops and humidifier. Once again, he did not want to go down for nap #2, went to bed around 8:00 pm, woke up around 10:00 and was up til 1:30 am.

Wednesday
Si got up once overnight to eat, went back to bed and got up for the day about 8:00 am. He sounded much better, still a little congested but much better. He's taken several short naps today, too!

On another Simon-related note, he had the biggest poopsplosion of his life today, too! The Huggies could not contain it. I'm talking up the back and down the leg! It was massive.

They Fit!

Most women have their skinny jeans, regular jeans, bigger jeans and maybe fat jeans. Today, for the first time since Simon was born, I tried on my regular jeans... and they fit! Not a well, I can get them buttoned but I'm spilling out kind of fit, nay, they fit like jeans are supposed to fit. And there was much rejoicing...

I've been down to my pre-pregnancy weight for over a month now, but my body has just been a little different. It's a wonderful different, though, because it means that my body did one of the amazing things it was designed to do: house my baby as he was being formed in my womb. Sure, there are some stretch marks here and there and my belly isn't as tight as it once was (although it's starting to get there), but that's a minuscule price to pay for the joy of being a mommy.

Staying home with Simon is also a perfect fit. I can't imagine feeling satisfied working outside our home because I love just being a stay-at-home wife and mother so much! I don't feel the need to prove that I can do it all by having a career, a fancy home and a family; I don't feel like I'm wasting my degree; and I don't feel like I wasted time and money getting my degree (I'm one of those rare cases who actually got a job in their studied field right out of college! Plus, that's how I met my husband!).

I understand that some women don't feel satisfied staying home and would prefer adult interaction at a job. And there are women who need to work outside the home in order to provide for their families. I'm just very appreciative that I don't fall into either of those camps. It's possible that I will have to go to work in the future, but right now, I'm just enjoying mommyhood.

Si Blogs

The MacBook is one of Si's favorite things. He'll sit on my lap and watch the screen as I check Email, blogs, facebook, etc. and loves to type when I'm iChatting with Chase. So I thought I'd let Si try blogging. He got super excited, thought about what he was going to say and concentrated very hard as he typed.

Here you have it, Simon's first blog post (please forgive his grammar as he is only three months old):

The Great Simon & Cassie Debate of 2008

Si had an extensive debate with his Aunt Rookie on world issues and I was able to capture it on video:

What Si's Been Up To

Here's what Si has been up to lately...

He went to his first baseball game:

He was indifferent about the game...

...and ended up falling asleep.

And now for some pictures from one of this week's naptimes when he was supposed to be sleeping but ended up just playing with his blanket and looking all cute instead:

He brought his blankie up to his face for a taste...

...snuggled a bit...

...and just looked cute.

Si got to meet more of his extended family at a reunion earlier today:

Si with his great-grandparents (my dad's parents)

Making music with Great-grandpa

Hanging out with Nana

And if you're wondering what he's doing as I'm typing this blog, he is in his pack-n-play at my parents hiccuping and not sleeping. He fell asleep eating and woke up as soon as I put him to bed... I'm listening on the baby monitor.
