zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ah, the weekend… a time for rest… or not. I’m glad that I got to see family (the in-laws and my parents, too!) but the whole getting up early thing doesn’t work all that well for me. Saturday we got up at 5:00 AM (central time) after going to bed sometime between 11:00 PM and midnight, I think. That’s 5:00 in the morning. Actually, I’d say that’s pre-morning since the sun wasn’t up yet. True, I did sleep for a couple hours in the car, but car sleep and bed sleep don’t result in the same kind of rest. Saturday night was another late night (I think I finally got to sleep sometime around 1:00 AM) and then Chase woke me up around 8:00 (eastern time) or so in the morning to get ready for the reunion. When we left to come back to Carbondale around 3:00 (eastern time) I got some more car rest while we were on the road before Chase woke me up to drive the rest of the way. We then had a meeting at the BCM and were there until 11:30 or so (central time) that night, and I had to get up for work this morning.

Having a lack of rest messes with my world. I couldn’t exercise this morning since I was too tired (took me about a half hour just to get out of bed), and since I couldn’t exercise like my body was just getting used to doing, I felt even more tired. Now that I have a lack of sleep headache and a sore back from all the travel, it’s making things just that much more difficult at work. Newsletters are here and being (loudly) stapled and I have some editing to do that will require some concentration… both things that don’t mix well with the sleepy headache.

I know that Philippians 2:14 says to do everything without complaining, but the more tired I get, the less that filter in my brain works. I do know that even though I feel pretty cruddy right now, those people at the Superdome in New Orleans have it worse…

$15!!!

$15!! I won $15! Actually, it was $15 towards a purchase at the store Buckle at University Mall. I used this money to buy some fun green pants (that were still a little more than I would usually pay for pants, but I was using money that I won and the effeminate guy working there did say they looked "very cute" on me as I was buying them). The thing I like about that store is that they size their girls' pants the same way guys' pants are sized: by waist and length measurements. It would have helped me to have known my measurements before trying on a bunch instead of just guessing. The thing I don't like about that store is the prices. Freakin' $90 for a pair of jeans that have holes in them! (Note: the pants I bought were way less than that.) The other thing I don't like that store is the fact that the employees pracitcally accost their customers to get them to buy something! (Okay, so that's two things I don't like.) But I do know why they do this since I'd applied to work there last year (and this is why I didn't take the job when it was offered), they only get $4/hour! That's $4/hour + commission.

So back to the $15... Yeah, at Welcome Fest last weekend (this thing at the SIU arena where different organizations & businesses set up tables and give away stuff in hopes that students would join/do buisness with their establishments) I was helping at the BCM table and we were running low on pens. So, Keli and I walked around gathering free pens from other organizations. We came to the University Mall's table and signed up to win stuff. And I won $15! Hooray!

Come on Down!

This morning as I was driving through Marion to get to work, a fifteen-passenger van swerved and came into my lane a bit coming pretty close to hitting me. Who was driving this van? None other than Bob Barker of The Price is Right. Well… at least some guy who looked like Bob Barker.

Good news: my friends Andrea & Tye are engaged as of this morning! Hooray! I talked to Tye online this morning and he gave me the skinny. They’re visiting Andrea’s sister, brother in-law and nephew in Boston, and he woke her up at like 5:30 AM telling her he couldn’t sleep. He took her down to this old colonial fort on this harbor and watched the sun rise with waves crashing on rocks all around them and stuff. Then he told her they should go back up, and when Andrea turned around, Tye was down on his knee and “asked away!”

More good news: Mathieu (our guest from France) found a place to live! It’s a furnished place, so that’s great for him. He’s just got to get some sheets for the bed and things like that, and he’ll be all set. It’s pretty close to where his classes are, so that’s a big plus for him.

Last night we had The Increase kickoff party at the BCM. It was great. We had some grilled hotdogs and hamburgers, volleyball, and great fellowship. I met some fun new people. One was a girl from France named Amilie. She is so nice and has a fun accent. Mathieu has class with her and brought her to the event. I’m pretty excited about hanging out with the new people I’ve met.

I’m going to have to set my VCR to tape the show Stella on Tuesdays on Comedy Central. That show is too funny to miss. I caught most of the later airing of it when I got home last night. Funny funny stuff.

French Toast

Ok... so after some contemplation, I think I'll just post the same thing here that I post on MySpace. So here it be:

We have a French guy staying with us! For how long? Not sure. His name is Mathieu (I think that’s how it’s spelled) and last night he educated us on some of the differences between English, French and some other languages, differences in some transportation, school, television and a few other things. Mathieu apparently got a taste of university bureaucracy in America… he was given the run-around when dealing with having his tuition already paid for by his school in France. He was sent from office to office and stood in lines only to end up back where he started, and the first lady he talked to made a phone call that fixed everything. Why she didn’t just make the call the first place was beyond him, but as Chase said, that’s university bureaucracy for ya.

Okie Doke

I pretty much just made this to be able to comment on other blogs or something. I keep my blog on MySpace here.
